The Star Scout Rank is earned after completing the Star Scout requirements and after earning the first four Scouts BSA ranks: First Class, Second Class, Tenderfoot and Scout. It is the fifth of 7 possible ranks in Scouts BSA. The ranks for Star, Life and Eagle (the highest rank of Scouting) focus on active participation, community service, leadership and merit badges. Scouts will have completed the fifth grade and are at least 10 years old OR are at least 11 years old OR have earned the Arrow of Light Award and are at least 10 years old. Participants may continue to work on Scouting advancement until reaching their 18th birthday.
